The Strokes

Whenever the crisp weather of fall hits, I always find myself looking into the recesses of my music library. Maybe the fall just puts me in the mood for post-punk music. Reasoning aside, It’s always nice to take a look at what really got me into music. So here is a look back at earlier 21st century.

The Strokes second studio album “Room on Fire” found them in good form. After just having received multiple awards the previous year, “Room on Fire” will not disappoint if this is your first exposure to this band. If this is your first time, you’ll find that winning combo of 2 guitars, bass, drums, and a vocalist. Looking back at this music, it’s surprising to hear how much all the bands of that time sounded alike; see The Bravery, Franz Ferdinand.

After releasing their third studio album in 2006, The Strokes disappeared off the map for a few years, pursuing many different solo projects. They recently popped up again, headlining in multiple festivals from Lollapalooza to Hurricane Festival. Good news is they’ll becoming out with a fresh album (estimated) March 11, 2011. Personally I won’t be holding my breath, but I am still excited as it sounds like they’re trying new sounds.
