Pancake Breakfast
Pancake Breakfast’s preview tracks “Little Bird” and “The Ballad of Maynard Noe” set the bar pretty high for their album release on September 25th. In searching for their non-existent back catalog, I found that this is a new, nine member band of what can only be described as a “Cake” like cross between country and rock music (aka: Roots Rock). I’m not completely sure what all Nine members do up on stage, but I can image everybody up there snapping their figures rocking back and forth. Very “doo-wop-y”, except instead of rocking, they’re doing some gimmicky country dance. Many of the tracks can be accomplished with no more than five members, and it seems as though this is just a big group of friends, anybody who wanted a part got one (like that kid that played just the triangle in middle school band). I don’t see the excessive amount of members for this style of band as a bad thing, just weird, although it probably looks like a party up on stage when they perform. In all honesty, I think having so many members keeps it lively and more social for them.
The website says the album is meant to be sang along with, and while many of the songs are very amusing, I feel like most of my friends would stare blankly at me if I sang along to many of these song (I’m wearing pants).
Note that none of these comments should be considered as negative, as this band is selling something fun and fresh, and I def. recommend a listen. Check out “Little Bird” at hypem.com.
As for the rest of the album, your options for obtaining the album are fairly limited right now, I was surprised to nab it off Zune pass.
