Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds: Live at Radio City Music Hall Blu-ray

This is a must have Blu-ray audio experience.

The Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds live Blu-ray came out in late 2007, and was one of the first Blu-ray’s to feature Dolby TrueHD 5.1 96Khz/24Bit audio.  Dolby TrueHD is an exciting audio format that enables audiophiles with the latest equipment to enjoy the (currently) best possible digital recordings of their favorite artists.

Audio CD’s are sampled at 44.1Khz and 16 bit, while the Dolby TrueHD format allows for up to 192Khz and 24 bit sampling.  Weighing in at over 9.5 GB, the Dave Matthews TrueHD soundtrack provides a unique listen to one of the highest quality recordings I’ve ever come across.  The dynamic range of this recording, provides such a high resolution of detail that you can hear every string on Dave and Tim’s guitars, you can hear their feet tapping, and crystal clear vocals better than if you had been at the concert yourself.

The blistering highs and lows and constant adjustment of effects pedals comes through with a clarity I’ve just never heard before.  In order to enjoy this soundtrack, you will need a Dolby TrueHD receiver and a blu-ray player that outputs bitrate Dolby TrueHD signals via HDMI 1.3 and higher cables.  Once you load up the disc, select Dolby TrueHD from the on screen blu-ray menu, this track is not selected by default.

While more recordings and shows will continue to come out on blu-ray, I can only hope that more sound engineers will record and also produce high resolution audio records for the blu-ray format.  This particular disc’s soundtrack and Dolby TrueHD technology gives the listener their best chance at hearing the actual studio recordings – without compression and down sampling.   What you get is the full package, and that in turn translates to an unmatched audiophile experience.  This sound track has truly unleashed the potential of my speakers, and while it might not be a benefit for computer/laptop/car stereos,  its a must have Blu-ray dvd and experience for audiophile fans.
